SCRT 181W: Critical Reading, Critical Writing
SLSC 2000: Interdisciplinary Seminar
“Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Gender”
This course introduces some key issues in gender and sexuality studies (GSS) and provides a starting vocabulary and background in the field. Because GSS is an interdisciplinary field, readings come from a number of different areas, including literature, history, medicine, philosophy, psychology, and sociology. In this course, our aim is to begin to understand human behavior through a focus on gender and sexuality and how gender and sexuality shape cultures and the institutions that structure them. Students will explore the study of gender and sexuality by examining the intersections of race, class, and disability with gender and sexuality across cultural and disciplinary contexts. We will develop a framework for thinking at the intersections of identity, politics, culture, and knowledge.
